What we do

All types of flooring, inside and out

Floors take more wear than any other surface in a building, and they set the look of a room as much as the walls do. We install and finish all types: refinishing the hardwood you already have, putting down new laminate, laying ceramic tile in bathrooms and kitchens, and working on porch, patio and deck surfaces outside.

Because it's the same crew that paints, a floor can be planned with the rest of the room. Floors, walls and trim are done in the right order by one team, instead of two trades working around each other.

Hardwood

Hardwood sanding and refinishing

Plenty of older homes have good hardwood hiding under a worn finish or old carpet. Sanding takes the floor back to bare wood, and most surface scratches and wear go with it. Then it's finished, so the wood has a fresh, even surface that stands up to feet, chairs and pets.

Refinishing is usually far less disruptive and less costly than replacing a floor, and solid hardwood can be refinished more than once in its life. Engineered wood floors have a thinner top layer, so how much sanding they can take depends on the floor.

Deep stains, or boards damaged right through, may need replacing rather than sanding. That's something Jorge can tell you when he sees the floor.

Laminate

Laminate installation

Laminate is a good choice where you want the look of wood with a hard-wearing surface at a lower price. Most laminate is a floating floor: the boards lock together over an underlayment rather than being nailed down, so the subfloor underneath has to be flat and solid first.

The details decide how it looks: a layout that avoids thin slivers at the walls, a gap left around the edges so the floor can move with the seasons, and trim and transitions fitted cleanly at doorways and where it meets other floors. Finish carpentry is part of what this crew does, so the trim is done properly too.

Ceramic tile

Ceramic Tile

We install ceramic tile in bathrooms and kitchens, on floors and backsplashes. Tile lasts a long time when it's put down right, and shows every shortcut when it isn't: cracked tiles, edges that don't line up, grout lines that wander.

Most of the work is in the preparation. The surface underneath has to be solid, flat and suitable for tile, especially in a bathroom, where water finds every weak spot. The layout is planned before the first tile goes down, so cuts land where they won't be noticed and the lines run straight across the room.

Then the tile is set, grouted and cleaned, and the edges finished so the room looks complete. Tile and paint in the same room can be done as one job, on one schedule.

Outside

Outside: porches, patios and deck surfaces

Flooring doesn't stop at the back door. Porch floors, patios and deck surfaces take rain, snow, salt and sun, and they need a surface that's safe to walk on and holds up outdoors.

Outside, the work is repairing and replacing worn boards and surfaces, and finishing them for the weather. Where a deck or porch floor needs staining and sealing, that's on Deck Staining & Sealing, and brick and stone patios are masonry, which the same crew handles.

One job

Paint and floors in one job

Floors, walls and trim are usually three different trades. Here they're one crew, which is how a painting job can grow into a whole room, or a whole house, without starting over with new contractors.

That's what happened for Stephanie DeSousa. The project started as painting and ended with fresh paint, new flooring and new molding. In the review's own words:

I cannot say enough amazing things about this company! From start to finish, their professionalism, craftsmanship, and attention to detail were truly exceptional. What started as a painting project quickly turned into a complete transformation of our home.
